Six Months at the White House with Abraham Lincoln FB Carpenter 9781535012263 Books

Abraham Lincoln was an icon to the American people and yet his simple personality, his warm and friendly response to so many in their plea for their loved ones in adverse circumstances, in poverty, in distress due to a prolonged rebellious war, for sons in their attempt to escape it, has been well defined in this book for all ages. The author writes a biography of Abe Lincoln as a diary of the President's life. He is a portrait artist and while treating the President in a painting for posterity also defines for posterity the character of a visionary. He is a keen observer. He perceives the introspective thinking of the President who carved a pattern of freedom breaking asunder once and for all the shackles of slavery in a land where slavery was rampant.. As a bystander he listens and records some of the wit and wisdom of his great subject. Abe Lincoln lost his life at the hand of an assassin but left an eternal and historic legacy. To lovers of biography, to lovers of history the author is to be congratulated for bringing one of America's greatest leaders to inspire all others.

This is not really a "story of a painting" as the painting itself is rarely mentioned. It is a collection of anecdotes about Abraham Lincoln. Which, in my view, makes it worth the money.
I was pleased to read of Lincoln (the person) from one who had nothing to gain by giving a candid view of the president's activities as well as his personality and beliefs.

I Thank God that statesmen have risen to the challenge of leading this country. We have been truly blessed.
This book was easy to read with it's short chapters. The content was interesting and gave great insight into Lincoln's character and day to day
life in the White House. I'd recommend the book for those who desire to know as much as possible about Lincoln.
I enjoyed this book very much. It was a little disjointed but was very realistic as told by the author. Some fun and interesting things about President Lincoln. Sounds like a great and yet humble man. I would recommend for anyone interested in history of the US and of the Civil War.
This was a very interesting book written by a man who painted the portrait on the cover. He spent six months in the White House while he did it and got an interesting point of view of Lincoln's day to day life during the final months of the Civil War and just before his assassination. I found it gave a different point of view then other books I have read about Lincoln. I did enjoy it.
This book clearly points out why Lincoln was one of the six great Presidents.....he took time everyday to talk to the people everyday!! He was a great leader with moral courage. Only Putin and his government in Russia spends time with the people!!! Think of any other world leader today who is even close to Lincoln in recognizing who he works for......the people who elected him. A very interesting book and should be read by every American.
I am a Lincoln lover! But I was totally blown away by this Lincoln book. A friend gave me a copy of an 1867 version of the book with a note on the inside cover to read the detailed description of Abraham Lincoln found in the latter part of the book. I skipped ahead to read it and was so profoundly in awe that I knew I had to read the whole book! The book contains anecdotal stories that typify the daily life of President Abraham Lincoln, who had to deal with issues both within and without his White House mansion. The author witnessed many of the episodes first hand, so it is authenticated. I loved the story so much, my wife decided to purchase me a copy of my own so I wouldn't have to fumble through the 1867 version any longer!
